# T. Rowe Price to Apply ‘Robust Governance’ to A.I.

The asset manager and BBH are embracing A.I. just as the technology is getting pushback about its future.

Amid a media frenzy over A.I., T. Rowe Price tells *FTF News* that it will be embracing “robust governance” as it expands its relationship with A.I. provider Anthropic, maker of the popular Claude system, which will impact the work of the firm’s portfolio managers, analysts, and performance measurement and client reporting teams, officials confirm.

The firm’s wider embrace of Anthropic’s offerings is an extension of “the A.I.-enabled innovation already underway” and represents the next phase of the firm’s broader AI strategy. As questions are raised about the ability of A.I. to cause harm, T. Rowe Price is dealing with the guardrail issues and concerns raised by whistleblowers in the industry, politicians, and the vendors themselves.

“We are taking a robust approach to A.I. adoption that combines governance, risk management, compliance oversight, and technical controls. A.I. use cases are subject to review and approval processes, associates receive guidance and training on appropriate use, and human judgment remains central to business decisions and outputs,” a spokesperson for T. Rowe Price tells *FTF News*.

“In parallel, we are implementing additional technical controls to strengthen our A.I. governance and control environment across the firm. Our goal is to enable innovation while maintaining the high standards our clients expect for security, risk management, and operational integrity. This approach reflects our broader commitment to applying AI in a disciplined way,” the spokesperson adds.

In particular, the firm’s portfolio managers and analysts will be using Claude and Cowork while its developers will be working with Claude Code “to build investment tools that support the investment process,” according to the announcement.

“Claude will enable our investment team to build A.I. skills, products, and workflows for various aspects of the investment lifecycle, including research, portfolio management, trade execution, and monitoring and risk,” the spokesperson says.

“As an active investment firm, T. Rowe Price builds its decisions on proprietary fundamental research. That means its analysts and portfolio managers read and evaluate large volumes of information, then apply experienced judgment to reach a view. The firm's goal is to give its investment professionals more capacity for exactly that work,” according to the announcement.

Specifically, the firm will use A.I. platform for:

- **Research and insights**: “Claude Cowork will help investment professionals synthesize complex information and create more capacity for research, analysis, and debate;”
- **Workflow support**: “Claude Cowork will assist teams with knowledge-intensive, multistep processes where efficiency, consistency, and appropriate oversight are essential;”
- **Technology enablement**: “Claude Code will support developers as they build and improve tools that enhance productivity across investment and operating workflows.”

In addition, T. Rowe Price will be allowing its performance measurement and client reporting teams to use Claude, the spokesperson tells *FTF News.*

“Our associates supporting performance measurement and client reporting will also use Claude. We see potential for Claude to support select operational workflows within those areas. Associates would continue to be responsible for validating A.I.-supported work and for the quality, accuracy and approval of outputs used in client-facing or investment-related materials,” the spokesperson says.

Overall, the A.I. efforts will be guided by the AI leadership model T. Rowe Price unveiled in August, “which places AI leaders inside Investments and Global Distribution and charges T. Rowe Price Labs, the firm’s enterprise AI innovation hub, with evaluating and scaling AI across the firm,” according to officials. “Every application is owned by the business, governed by the firm's standards for responsible use, and built to keep human judgment and accountability at the center of client outcomes.”

Officials at the firm add it their approach “has always been grounded in rigorous research, disciplined analysis, and experienced judgment. Claude lets our investment professionals cover more ground and go deeper on what matters. It is a direct extension of the research process that has served our clients for nearly 90 years.”

“The collaboration is part of a broader firmwide effort to pair A.I. with continued investment in people and capabilities. Through A.I. training, talent development, and responsible-use guidance, T. Rowe Price is helping associates build the skills and confidence to apply A.I. effectively while keeping human judgment and client focus at the center of its approach,” says Peter Nolan, head of asset and wealth management at Anthropic, in a prepared statement.

1. Rowe Price manages $1.87 trillion in client assets as of July 31, 2026, about two-thirds of which are retirement related, according to officials.
2. Rowe Price is not the only financial services firm embracing A.I. Private bank Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) is launching a technology affiliate, Braid LLC, whose mission will be to facilitate enterprise data transformation for financial services. Braid’s A.I.-native data transformation platform helps f firms to “transform, connect, and manage” data.

Built by financial services experts, Braid provides the transparency and controls that a regulated financial organization needs for oversight.”

“In a 2025 pilot, Braid delivered as high as 98 percent efficiency gains across three use cases: converting data into standard formats, automating trade instruction ingestion more efficiently than traditional extract, transform, load (ETL) tools, and unifying disparate data from more than 150 external providers, saving hundreds of hours of effort,” according to BBH.

BBN has 6,000 employees in more than 90 markets across BBH’s 18 offices.
